One of the reasons urine tests are recommended first is because they provide instant results within a few minutes. You can find out during your appointment if you may be pregnant.
The downfall of the urine test is that it can provide a false negative if you take it too early, which is why a blood pregnancy test is sometimes recommended. But because your blood specimen has to go to the lab, it could take a day or two to get your results back.
